Hunan Railway College of Science & Technology is a public college with professional characteristic.It is one of the institutions of higher learning which is allocated by the Ministry of National Finance.
The college predecessor is Zhuzhou Railway Institute established in 1956, which is managed by the Ministry of Railways. Then it's called Zhuzhou Railway Mechanical School, a state-level key point one. It has 50-year school histories and is an advanced unit for vocational-technical education of national, the railroad and Hunan Province. It has trained the massive talented people for the railroad and the society. It is called "the cradle" of personnel training by Hunan, Guangdong, Hainan three province railroads (Guangzhou railroad group). It is also one of the institutions of higher learning which the state-owned big railroad, the city border light railway, the big city subway specialized technology and the managerial talent raise.
The college is situated at the Chiangnan strategic place, the downtown of Zhuzhou, Hunan, borders on the Xiangjiang River. The campus environment is exquisite. It is one of the botanical garden type units of Hunan Province. It has the first-class teachers troop, in which more than 30 teachers holds the post of "the specialized discipline leader" of the state-level, the province departmental level, the city level and it has the first-class teaching equipment, with the value of hundred million Yuan. It has a laboratory building with more than 10,000 square meters first-class experimental facility.
Now it has more than 5,400 students and over 400 staff. The college presently sets up the railroad rolling stock engineering department, the railroad traffic operation management department, the mechanical and electrical engineering department, the electronic & electric department, the information technology department, the economical management department, the basic course department and so on.The railroad rolling stock engineering department and the railroad traffic operation management departmentis origin from the 1950's, which were established by the Ministry of Railways. It is an outstanding specialized spot of the Ministry of Railways. And the mechanical and electrical engineering department has the domestic first-class practice base of numerical control technology. The information technology department once initiated and established the national vocational education association. It has been the computer training base for Hunan Province teaches. It has cooperated with NIIT (Indian Country Information Technology Institute) and Chuangzhi Software Garden Limited Company to raise software talented persons according to the NIIT teaching system. All those who participate in this project can obtain not only the technical college educational certificate, but also the NIIT Software Engineer certificate which is admitted by all the countries by the time the students graduation. The graduates get full-employed. The college now opens 22 specialties, is equipped with the national professional skill appraisal and the appraisal institute of unique kind of work of the Ministry of Railways. It practices the school record diploma + professional credentials system.
The college has established the long-term talented person supply-demand relation with more than 180 enterprises or organizations. It has formed the stable employment safeguard system. About 40% graduates face the railroad enterprises on the employment, and 60% face the society enterprises and institutions. The college was awarded the advanced unit for students employment of Hunan Province. Every student who goes to study in the college can step onto the operating post promptly if he/she displays well and has completed all the prescribed courses. The college also coopereates with many well-known enterprises inside and outside railroad to let the students "have the operating post first before they graduate".
