How many foreign teachers are there in Hunan province?
Statistically, Hunan has recruited about 2200 foreign experts in 2006, among whom about 900 are in educational area.
What should I do when I first arrive in Changsha?
HPEAIE or our host school will pick you up at the airport, railway station or bus station, and teachers will stay in Changsha for few days. Then you have to make a medical examination in Hunan Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau.
What kind of visa should I have while teaching in Hunan?
It is illegal for you to hold other kinds of visa but Z visa (working visa) while teaching in Hunan.
Can I change other kinds of Visa into Z Visa in mainland?
No, teachers have to travel to Hong Kong to change visa at
the Commissioner¡¯s Office of China¡¯s Foreign Ministry in the Hong Kong SAR. click here
Do teachers require a medical examination?
For Z visa application, you will need to provide a health certificate for the Chinese authorities indicating that you are with a good health. You are also required to take an HIV test. Please download the medical examination form from here  China medical.doc.
What is my work load?
You have to teach 16-20 hours each week, 45 minute per hour, from Monday to Friday. If the school requires more than 20 classes per week, you will be paid 80-100RMB each extra class.
Should I share my apartment with other teachers?
Every teacher will be accommodate with a separate apartment, usually with one or two bedrooms, equipped with all the necessities for working and living comfortably, air conditioner, TV, telephone, internet access, computer and desk, sofa and chairs, bed, wardrobe, bed linens, washing machine, hot shower, kitchen with refrigerator, cooking element and necessary dishes.
Do I have a Chinese assistant?
Every teacher is provided with a local assistant. They all speak English and help the teacher with conducting the lesson in the first week. They also help out through the term with general administrative support and translate and assist you with any problems you might encounter.
